NABERS: Senior Project Officers

NABERS is a national rating system that measures the environmental performance of Australian buildings. NABERS measures the energy efficiency, water usage, waste management and indoor environment quality of a building and its impact on the environment.

NABERS is looking for four Senior Projects Officers to work in various parts of the NABERS branch on implementing our new strategic plan (find out more here). 

  • Job Grade / Classification: Environment Officer Class 10
  • Employment Type: Temporary Full-time (Up to 3 Years) – 4 roles available
  • Location: Sydney CBD – Relocating to Parramatta late 2019 / early 2020 

To be successful in all roles you will have exceptional written and verbal communication skills with proven experience in engaging with stakeholders and the ability to work collaboratively across teams and mentor/supervise project staff.

ROLE 1: Senior Project Officer – Ratings Development Manager

The primary purpose of this role is to develop NABERS tools for new sectors such as schools, industrial buildings, retail and aged care facilities. Other key responsibilities include:

  • Meet key stakeholders to determine specific sector requirements for new tool development;
  • Procure services and manage consultants to collect sector-based data;
  • Engage with consultants to determine key variables for developing a new tool for a sector;
  • Benchmark within the sector to determine a star rating or early in-sector comparisons;
  • Collaborate with the NABERS Online team for early stage prototyping for technology development;
  • Collaborate with the NABERS Operations and Standards team to develop the associated materials and process for the new tools – including the Rules, auditing procedures and training content and delivery method;
  • Deliver full rating tools to be ready for launch – where buildings can be certificated for new sectors;
  • Collaborate with the NABERS Market Development team through the development phase of the new tool so they can prepare a marketing strategy and product launch;
  • Post launch of the new tool provide technical support to resolve issues that may impede uptake;
  • Participate in the NABERS Technical Community – including undertaking Level 1 audits and responding to technical queries.

ROLE 2: Senior Project Officer – Ratings Manager

The primary purpose of this role is to manage the NABERS auditing program and lead technical projects associated with products and standards. Other key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the allocation and management of Level 1 audits across all NABERS teams;
  • Manage resourcing requests for technical support from the broader NABERS team;
  • Work with the Products and Standards Manager on the products lifecycle, inputting feedback from the auditing program;
  • Lead technical projects associated with products and standards;
  • Participate in the NABERS Technical Community – including undertaking Level 1 audits and responding to technical queries.

ROLE 3: Senior Project Officer – Technical Project Manager (Improvements)

The primary purpose of this role is to lead complex technical projects that improve NABERS products and rating tools. Other key responsibilities include:

  • Lead complex technical projects that improve NABERS products and rating tools.
  • Prioritise and plan improvement projects in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Investigate potential solutions to improve products, rating tools and formulate a recommended approach;
  • Present options to stakeholders for feedback and decision making;
  • Finalise solutions and develop and execute the delivery plan;
  • Communicate key changes to stakeholders in collaboration with the Market Development team;
  • Evaluate the impact of solutions and build in future improvements;
  • Participate in the NABERS Technical Community – including undertaking Level 1 audits and responding to technical queries.

ROLE 4: Senior Project Officer – Market Development Manager

The primary purpose of this role is to develop and deliver strategic plans and activities to increase the number of NABERS ratings in specific sectors and manage program improvements in response to market feedback. Other key responsibilities include:

  • Leverage data to identify growth opportunities;
  • Plan and prioritise engagement activities within a sector-based engagement strategy to maximise ratings growth in defined sector/s;
  • Participate in strategic promotion and speaking opportunities and represent NABERS at stakeholder forums.
  • Leverage customer and assessor feedback to identify technical or IT issues impacting the uptake of NABERS ratings in targeted sectors, and develop a plan to resolve these barriers, where possible
  • Work collaboratively with the Marketing and Communications team to develop engagement materials and events;
  • Work collaboratively with the Training team to provide input into the development of training material and rating tools. 
  • Work collaboratively with the Product Development and/or the Products and Standards team to resolve technical or IT issues wherever possible;
  • Review and act on issues arising from audits to improve ratings in collaboration with the Products and Standards team;
  • Participate in the NABERS Technical Community – including occasionally undertaking Level 1 audits and responding to technical queries.
