The City of Melbourne has appointed Australia’s first chief resilience officer as part of the Rockerfeller Foundation’s 100 Resilient Cities Network.

Mr Kent, former head of sustainable development for ANZ, is an executive with international senior management experience in sustainability, urbanisation and social development.

In the role, Mr Kent will lead development and implementation of a Melbourne Resilience Strategy, working in association with state government agencies and metropolitan local governments. A resilience steering committee including representatives from state and local government, as well as agencies such as Emergency Management Victoria, will be established to oversee development of the strategy. Mr Kent will coordinate and complement work already being done to help make Melbourne more disaster and climate resilient.

The position, which attracts a salary upwards of $200,000, is paid for in full by the Rockerfeller Foundation for two years.
